The Alliance to Save Energy’s PowerSave Schools Program (formerly Green Schools) empowers students by educating them about energy efficiency through project-based curriculum, saving energy in schools and building pathways to green jobs.  

School districts spend more money on energy than on textbooks and supplies combined, and much of that energy is wasted!  Energy costs are an enormous expense for U.S. schools – approximately $6 billion each year.

PowerSave Schools Goals

• 1. Save energy and lower school energy costs through no-cost behavior and operational changes, to achieve average annual savings between five to 15 percent.
  2. Strengthen student learning by integrating energy into curriculum, particularly in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and using the building as a real-world learning laboratory to create a deep understanding of energy’s links to the environment and economy.
  3. Engage students as advocates for energy efficiency in their homes and communities. After executing energy-saving activities in their schools in the first program year, students have the confidence and knowledge to champion energy efficiency in the larger community.
  4. Introduce students to careers in energy efficiency and sustainability, exploring potential jobs and career pathways and understanding academic requirements.
